Reliability Centre Maintenance Training Program
Course objectives
The aim of the course is to use mixture of theory and practical exercises to give the participants an understandingof RCM, as well as a sound basis for analysis work.
Course overview
Euipment has grown more complex and the number of components has risen considerably, bringing a need forchange to maintenance methods and procedures. The risk with traditional preventive maintenance managementis that initiatives are not optimized. By applying the theories and ways of working defined in RCM, safer andmore effective preventive maintenance can be achieved.
The definition of RCM can be summarized in two points:
• RCM is a structured method for assessing maintenance measures for a technical system
• The starting point for a RCM analysis is the system’s stated operating conditions, its criticality and its risks
Course duration
5 days-instructor will be from American Society of Quality (ASQ)
Documentation
The participants will receive a workbook which is adapted to suit the course
Some of the contents :
Weibull Distribution, Mechanical System Reliability, Repairable Systems, Reliability in Design

Certification Programs
Idhammar launched 2 certification programs in Malaysia and South East Asia (SEA)
Certified Reliability Engineering by American Society of Quality (ASQ)
The Certified Reliability Engineer is a professional who understands the principles of performance evaluation and prediction to improve product/systems safety, reliability and maintainability.
This body of knowledge (BOK) and applied technologies include, but are not limited to, design review and control; prediction, estimation, and apportionment methodology; failure mode effects and analysis; the planning, operation and analysis of reliability testing and field failures, including mathematical modelling; understanding human factors in reliability; and the ability to develop and administer reliability information systems for failure analysis, design and performance improvement and reliability program management over the entire product life cycle.
Reliability Engineer re-certification
Recertify.
To maintain the integrity of your Reliability Engineer certification, ASQ requires that you recertify every three years.
Two Ways to Recertify
1. Recertification Journal:
Obtain a minimum of 18 recertification units (RUs) during your three-year certification period. Document them in your recertification journal.
2. Examination:
Sit for the exam. (Required if your certification expired and is past the six-month grace period.)
The purpose of recertifying is to ensure that, as an ASQ-certified quality professional, you maintain the same level of knowledge originally demonstrated when you passed the written examination. If you do not recertify, your certification will lapse and ASQ will no longer recognize you as "certified."
Maintenance technician Specialist Certification by European Federation of National Maintenance Society (EFNMS)
Each National Maintenance Society that is a member of the EFNMS will, on behalf of the EFNMS, arrange written examinations of the theoretical knowledge in each Societies own language. (These tests can be arranged at intervals that will suit each Society. However, no more than twice a year.)
The examination has to be arranged according to national university standards
The examination shall include:
[A] Questions in the participants own language that covers the subjects in the detailed specification,
[B] One maintenance article in English, from which the participants shall write an abstract in their own language.
The examinations are open for anyone to participate in.
To achieve the European certificate, the participant has to pass the examinations A and B above, and the participant shall have at least 5 years experience in the field of maintenance, inclusive at least 2 years experience in a managing position in the field of maintenance.(At least one of these years should have occurred during the last 18 months.)
Why is the EFNMS certification important?
For the individuals
- The only individual professional competence verification that exists
- Better chances on the working market
- Higher recognition within the company
- Improvement of self confidence
- A possibility for easier mobility between European countries
- A higher acceptance on the European working market
For the Company
- An independent verification of the competence for a professional maintenance
- A competitive advantage in the case of selling maintenance services
- A possibility to identify gaps of knowledge to improve
- General remarks
- There is a trend to have certificates in number of areas (particularly when out-sourcing maintenance operations)
- The EFNMS certification is promoting the National Maintenance Societies and EFNMS.
